Requirements for all officials

Non-Athlete USA Swimming Registration - Every 12 Months

First time non-athlete registration must be submitted before login to the USA Swimming site is created.

Safe Sport (Athlete Protection)Training - Every 12 Months

Concussion Management Training (you can pick either of the below courses) - Every 2 Years

Certification test on USA Swimming - Every 2 Years

After you take your highest level test needed as long as you attend an officials clinic within the two years you do not need to take a re-certification test.

Level 2 Background Check - Every 2 Years

Must work a minimum 4 sessions per year to keep certification

Meet Attire - Khaki (shorts, pants or skirt), white shirt, white socks and white athletic shoes

Position Specific Certification Requirements

Stroke & Turn Judge
-
Apprentice for six (6) sessions with at least three (3) different Mentors, preferably four (4) Different Mentors; sessions must be completed at three (3) or more different Meets and two (2) different pools

Apprenticeship session cannot only contain Freestyle events

At the completion of 6th apprentice session the meet referee will validate completion of sessions.

Starter

Must have worked a minimum of one (1) year and have officiated at least 12 sessions as a Certified Stroke and Turn official prior to apprenticing as a Starter.

Must apprentice six (6) sessions as an Apprentice Starter with at least two (2) different Mentors, preferably four (4) different Mentors. Sessions must be completed at three (3) or more different meets and pools

Referee

Must have worked a minimum of one (1) year and have started six (6) sessions as a Certified Starter prior to apprenticing as a Referee.

Must apprentice six (6) sessions as Apprentice Referee with at least two (2) different Mentors, preferably four (4) different Mentors. Sessions must be completed at three (3) or more different Meets and pools
